what you might be thinking…

  • Adults are fully developed dogs and have created habits from rehearsing that undesirable behaviour that you may strongly despise.

Genetics will always play a role, but the environment they grew up in now has created the dog you see in front of you.

A puppy/adolescent dog on the other hand is still growing and developing, so their training will differ (See puppy or adolescent training here).

Due to the varied nature of how dogs turn out as adults, our training sessions in adult training are customised according to their case, history and your desired goal.

We will always keep things honest at Mindfulness: if we believe your case would fit another trainer or will require a larger number of sessions we will be upfront prior to booking the sessions.

  • Have you ruled out the following?

    1. Have I have ruled out any mental/physical issues with a qualified vet?

    2. Has my dog had poor genetics and/or upbringing that has led to continual aggression that has hurt me, another dog or someone in my care?

These are real questions to navigate about your dog with honesty.

The follow up questions is then:

    1. Am I willing to do the training and management required to work with my dog?

    2. Can I say with assurance that my dog will have a good life despite these circumstances?

    3. Am I able to protect others from my dog hurting them?

If you need a professional opinion, Mindfulness is able to provide that via online video call, but will require a vet letter to clarify and clear any health issues or behavioural issues.

We do not work In Person with dog/human aggressive dogs but can refer you to trainers who do.

  • Here is the general guide I recommend depending on your case:

    ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

I would recommend "Starter" for cases like Recall issues, Loose lead, Jumping & similar mild cases.

    ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

I would recommend "Reset" for cases such as Leash pulling, Excessive barking, Toileting in the home and issues linked to lack of breed fulfilment such as nipping, excessive digging and chasing.

    ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

I would recommend "Change" for reactivity (fear, overstimulation), anxiety of all kinds (mild-moderate) or for the owner who is wanting to get their confidence back but feels stressed, ashamed or worried. We work at your pace and will aim to build a professional relationship based on listening, empathy and kindness.

    ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

  • At Mindfulness we value commitment and really knowing who you are as a dog owner and as a person (as well as your furry friend too of course!).

We know that relationships and trust are not build overnight, so this is why we offer discounts for packages as a gift to thank you for trusting us!

To support you in this too, we keep our client intake low! Why?

Less clients = high capacity from me!
Higher capacity = increased quality support
Increased quality = more happy dog owners!

    You will be also receiving:

    • We apply principles of counselling in how we approach all clients: with unconditional positive regard and genuine empathy.

    • I am continuously upskilling my knowledge and taking additional steps of self-care such as therapy, breaks and community involvement. This ensures I am a dog trainer who can manage myself well to give you the full focus in sessions.

    • Expertise that many dog trainers do not offer around human behaviour which ensures training remains owner-centric which will in turn help your dog!

    • Dog training and behaviour and knowledge from a trainer who has been in the industry for over 8 years and is certified with the National Dog Training Federation.

Starter

  • Starter is designed for the basic issue that you need guidance with such as:

    • Recall

    • Loose lead walking with no aggression/reactivity or overexcitement.

    • Tips on how you can improve your training technique and management in small things in the home or out.

For starter cases I'd recommend even checking out the guides which are an affordable alternative.

I collated all the questions people had on these specific issues and created guides on it here:

    • Recall your dog

    • Dog behaviour basics

    • Cafe dog guide

    • Market dog guide

  • This is a single session that will go for 1 hour - 1 hour 30 minutes.

Reset

  • When the behaviour has gone from minor to challenging, "Reset" is the package for you.

Think of yourself as an adult:
Do you notice how it seems so much harder to learn new things or change your mind? There is a reason for this.

The short non-fancy description is this: You take longer as you get older to learn due to established habits, routine, and we commonly are less motivated to change.
This applies to your dog too!

Your adult dog has likely developed certain behaviours over time now and you may not like some of them, but by changing your approach you can reset and improve your relationship with your adult dog!

"Reset" is designed to help support you as your create new behaviours in not only your dog but yourself to achieve a better life together.

We found that 4 sessions was the minimum for clients to begin creating change in not only their dogs but themselves - and we do not believe in giving you any less if you want this for yourself and your dog.

To make this as attainable as possible, we offer you a large discount (25%) to ensure you are rewarded for wanting to commit to help you and your dog change for the better!

Change

  • When you have altered your whole life around your dog's behavioural issues, it can feel like there is no escape.

You live your life with constant anxiety.
You have no confidence in yourself as a dog owner.

And the guilt just eats at you and you wonder if things can change...

But Mindfulness is here to extend our hand to you and help get you out of that pit.

"Change" is a long-term program designed to support you through this with your severe training issues that not only plague your dog but yourself too.

  • We have analysed owners who:
    - Had highly reactive/overstimulated dogs.
    - Struggled with confidence, anxiety and fear in their skills as an owner.

We then noted that the ones who yielded the best results were owners who:
    - felt supported and heard.
    - felt safe with me as a trainer through a long term working relationship.
    - invested into 5 sessions minimum.
    - had communication between sessions on questions/queries.

So for owners who are in this boat, "Change" will fit better than "Reset" as it will provide the additional support such as check ins and scheduled additional contact which is done to ensure we work on training at your pace!
